We value the academic, social, emotional and physical development and well-being of all our students. The diverse curriculum is in line with our firm belief that a strong sense of belonging allows students to flourish.
ACPS runs three Multi-Age classrooms and teaches the Victorian Curriculum with a focus on excellence. The school’s core curriculum is strong in English and Maths and our teachers draw upon a diverse skillset from specialist areas including Art, Music, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), German, and Library.
In addition to our core curriculum, we integrate the investigation of a specific area of study each term. This is a special part of our student’s learning and is undertaken by the entire school.
Our talented teachers remain up-to-date with the latest developments and innovations in education while closely monitoring the individual progress of students. We work hard to provide a differentiated curriculum, which is rich in understanding and accounts for different student learning styles.
We place a strong emphasis on sport and Physical Education. Students are involved in small school interschool sports during Terms 2 and 4, an annual swimming program and sporting clinics. Students in middle and upper grades compete in Sugarloaf combined sporting activities including Cross Country, Hoop Time Basketball, Athletics and Soccer Tournaments.
All students actively participate in our school concert. This is a highly anticipated event on the school calendar and is always a lovely way to celebrate various skills in the Arts.
Learning outside the classroom
ACPS has a strong commitment to the environment. Our students maintain and oversee a healthy vegetable garden and newly appointed chicken coop.
We offer various incursions and excursions to supplement student learning. Students from Years 3 – 6 have one camp per year and our Prep – Year 2 students have an annual school sleepover.
Our library program is supported with weekly visits to the Yarra Plenty Regional Library Bus at the front of the school.
STEM (Science, technology, engineering and maths)
Our small schools network are fortunate in sharing a specialist teacher who conducts weekly classes focusing on building deeper skills and understandings in STEM in line with the newly introduced Victorian Curriculum.
